The Acuter Elite Phoenix is a dual-use telescope. In its original configuration, thanks to its specialized H-alpha filter, it allows for detailed observation of the Sun, its surface, and its prominences. In its classic astronomical configuration, once the solar filter is removed, it can be used as a night-vision telescope for observing the Moon, planets, and large deep-sky objects.
The Elite Phoenix comes with numerous accessories, including a 5-16mm zoom eyepiece, for both uses. It can be mounted on a conventional astronomical mount thanks to its integrated Vixen-type dovetail. It can also be mounted on a standard camera tripod; the dovetail is equipped with a Kodak threaded hole (1/4"-20). An aluminum carrying case is included.
The Acuter Elite Phoenix telescope is primarily designed for solar observation. To achieve this, it uses a highly selective filter that only transmits the H-alpha line of hydrogen (656 nm), the Sun's main chemical component. It provides access to the most spectacular formations visible on its surface: prominences, filaments, and all the small details invisible with a conventional wide-bandwidth filter. In the H-alpha line, the Sun reveals all its activity and dynamism, and all this in complete safety!
The solar filter is composed of two elements. The front part, with a useful diameter of 40 mm, contains the Fabry-Pérot interferometer, which extracts a comb of lines. The rear part is a blocking filter inserted into a 1.25" (31.75 mm) elbow adapter designed to extract the H-alpha line. The device also incorporates an IR blocking filter. The assembly complies with ISO 12312-2 for filters intended for direct observation of the Sun.
A projection solar finder scope is attached to the side of the telescope for pointing at our star. Simply insert the 5-16mm zoom eyepiece (magnifications from 25x to 80x) into the blocking filter to observe. The image is focused in the traditional way, using the side dials. A rotating device at the front slightly varies the filter's bandwidth to observe solar formations affected by the Doppler effect. A smartphone adapter allows you to immortalize your observations and share them with your friends.
By removing the two solar filter elements, the Acuter Elite Phoenix telescope transforms into a classic 80mm diameter achromatic telescope (400mm focal length) for observing the night sky. You will be able to admire the Moon, planets, and the brightest deep-sky objects.
For traditional nighttime observation, a red dot sight (included) must be added to the optical tube. The diagonal equipped with the blocking filter is replaced by a classic diagonal (also included) into which the Zoom eyepiece will be inserted. Here again, by attaching the smartphone adapter, you can keep some memories of your observations.
