Sky-Watcher offers the EvoStar EDX range from 80 to 150mm to cover a wide range of needs. The EvoStar 100EDX is of intermediate diameter and is aimed at amateurs looking for a versatile instrument: both for observing planets AND deep sky photography. Thanks to its focal ratio of f/7 it allows the practice of astrophotography. Nebulae and galaxies will then be targets of choice. Its high optical quality, thanks to the good correction of chromatism, will delight more than one amateur. The Moon, Jupiter and Saturn will offer you a beautiful spectacle at 100mm diameter, do not hesitate to use a high magnification on such an instrument.
To earn the coveted "APO" designation, a refractor must correct for primary and secondary chromatic aberrations, inherent in all systems whose light rays pass through an optical element. In the case of the EvoStar 100EDX, a doublet composed of an ED glass element (from the renowned Japanese manufacturer Hoya) reduces chromatic aberrations to significantly limit the appearance of colored rims on planets or the Moon. The use of multi-layer coatings on all surfaces significantly limits losses due to lens passage, making the EvoStar 100EDX brighter and more contrasty than conventional, less well-corrected refractors. The "Metallic High-Transmission" (MHC) coating is applied to the air-glass surfaces, ensuring stunning results (transmission close to 99.5%).
Thanks to its focal ratio (f/7), the Sky-Watcher EvoStar 100EDX refractor is particularly interesting for deep-sky photography. In combination, for example, with a large-format digital camera (corrector/reducer recommended), point the refractor at the most beautiful or complex deep-sky objects. In addition, such a diameter collects 56% more light than an 80mm refractor.
Sky-Watcher EvoStar 100EDX f/7 Apochromatic Refractor
The Sky-Watcher EvoStar range features a high-quality focuser because to be consistent with the optics and provide good results in astrophotography (where focus is paramount), the mechanics must be optimized. The focuser is a high-capacity Crayford focuser for larger sensors. With a 2.6" (66mm) input format, it is both robust and precise thanks to a 10:1 gear ratio. A thumbscrew maintains focus depending on the orientation of the optical tube. The focuser output rotates 360° without losing focus, helping you find the best framing.
To meet the requirements of amateur astronomers, the optical tube is made entirely of steel and machined with great precision under CNC (numerical control machine). No plastic parts are used! The solidity is therefore there as is the particularly successful aesthetics. The interior is blackened and baffled to limit the intrusion of stray light. Two collars and a Vixen-type dovetail are included for attachment to your mount.
