Sky-Watcher offers the EvoStar EDX range, from 80 to 150mm, to cover a wide range of needs. The EvoStar 150EDX is the brand's largest diameter ED refractor, and is aimed at amateurs looking for a versatile instrument: for both planetary and deep-sky observation! Thanks to its f/8 focal length ratio, it allows for astrophotography. Nebulae and galaxies will be prime targets. Its high optical quality, thanks to its good chromatic correction, will delight many amateurs. The Moon, Jupiter, and Saturn will offer you an impressive spectacle; don't hesitate to use high magnification on such an instrument.
To achieve the coveted "APO" designation, a refractor must correct for primary and secondary chromatic aberrations, inherent in all systems whose light rays pass through an optical element. In the case of the EvoStar 150EDX, a doublet composed of an ED glass element (from renowned Japanese manufacturer Hoya) reduces chromatic aberrations to significantly limit the appearance of colored rims on planets or the Moon. The use of multi-layer coatings on all surfaces significantly limits losses due to lens passage, making the EvoStar 150EDX brighter and more contrasty than conventional, less well-corrected refractors. The "Metallic High-Transmission" (MHC) coating is applied to the air-glass surfaces, ensuring stunning results (transmission close to 99.5%).
Thanks to its focal ratio (f/8), the Sky-Watcher EvoStar 150EDX refractor is particularly interesting for deep-sky photography. In combination, for example, with a large-format digital camera (corrector/reducer recommended), point the refractor at the most beautiful or complex deep-sky objects. In addition, such a diameter collects 56% more light than a 120mm refractor.
