To be fully operational, an equatorial mount must be oriented so that its main axis (the axis of right ascension) is oriented parallel to the axis of rotation of the Earth, i.e. it must point towards the celestial pole. In the Northern Hemisphere, the celestial pole is located not far from the Polar Star, the main star in the constellation Ursa Minor. This setting procedure is called stationing.
The station can be set up quickly, by roughly orienting the axis of the mount towards the Polar Star, which is sufficient for classic observations. It can also be done using a polar viewfinder. It is a small bezel on which is engraved the real position of the North Celestial Pole according to the date. The precision of station setup is greatly increased.
ATTENTION: This model is specific to Sky-Watcher equatorial mounts type HEQ5, EQ3-2.
