Designed for the discerning amateur astronomer, the Sky-Watcher ESPRIT series refractors achieve performance equivalent to high-end equipment. With their exclusive three-element air-spaced design, chromatic aberration is completely controlled, delivering images with exceptional sharpness and contrast. The "spirit" of this range lies in an objective lens featuring a high-quality ED triplet. Thanks to a central ED glass (from the renowned Japanese manufacturer Hoya), Sky-Watcher has opted for the best to deliver high-performance optics for both planetary and imaging. Moreover, the barrel is adjustable, unlike other manufacturers.
The use of multi-layer coatings on all surfaces significantly limits losses due to lens pass-through, making the Esprit 70EDX brighter and more contrasty than conventional, less well-corrected refractors. The "Metallic High-Transmission" (MHC) treatment is applied to the air-glass surfaces ensuring stunning results (transmission close to 99.5%).
An optional screw-in field corrector (less flexion), has two 48mm diameter lenses and offers a perfectly flat field at focus over the entire image circle. Its oversized lenses ensure a wider and clearer aperture and have no internal reflections. Thanks to the optional corrector, the Esprit 70EDX can be fully used at its focal ratio of f/7. It is therefore particularly suitable for deep sky photography. Point the Esprit 70EDX towards the most beautiful nebulae or galaxies (Orion, Andromeda, etc.) with a digital camera or CCD/CMOS camera.
The Sky-Watcher Esprit series features a high-quality focuser: the Linear Power. To be consistent with the optics and provide good results in astrophotography (where focusing is paramount), the focuser is a high-capacity rack-and-pinion for larger sensors. With a 2.7" (68.5mm) input format, the Linear Power (patented design) is both robust and precise thanks to an 11:1 gear ratio.
The sliding tube features a steel guide rail running on four large ball bearings, providing great smoothness and preventing shifting during focusing. A thumbscrew maintains focus depending on the orientation of the optical tube. The Linear Power also features a graduated scale on the sliding tube so you can identify multiple positions depending on your equipment. Finally, the focuser output rotates 360° without losing focus, helping you find the best framing.
To meet the demands of amateur astronomers, the optical tube is made entirely of steel and machined with high precision using a CNC (computer numerically controlled machine). No plastic parts are used! This ensures both robustness and a particularly attractive appearance. The interior is blackened and baffled to limit the intrusion of stray light.
