All about the Newton Sky-Watcher 200mm f/5
With a 200mm primary mirror, Sky-Watcher's Newton 200 is one of the amateur instruments capable of revealing many deep sky objects and details on the planets and the Moon. Indeed it harvests 78% more light compared to a 150mm telescope and promises for the beginner as the amateur astronomer years of observations rich in discoveries.
Its Newton design offers several advantages compared to other families of instruments (Cassegrain telescopes and telescopes). The manufacture of mirrors is more economical for the same diameter and its focal ratio is generally very low. You then benefit for an attractive budget from a bright telescope which provides a large field of observation (here f/D=5). The central obstruction is also weaker than Cassegrain type telescopes.
Excellent workmanship
Unlike very cheap manufactures or small diameter Newton telescopes, the 150, 200, 250 and 300mm Newton Sky-Watchers have a parabolic primary mirror. The mirrors are spherically polished then recut to achieve a paraboloidal shape (more expensive and difficult to obtain). This is an essential selection criterion for instruments above 130mm and with a short f/D.
Focusing is achieved through a Crayford bi-flowing focuser. It allows to obtain a fine focus thanks to the 1:10 gear ratio. A very appreciable plus during observations at high magnifications and in imaging. It can support heavy loads (ex: APN). A 31.75mm adapter is supplied as standard to use eyepieces of the same format from the 50.8mm output. A clamping screw located at the bottom of the focuser helps maintain focus according to the orientation of the optical tube.
